                <text>The Lincoln Elementary School was created in 1869 on Humphrey Street and Englewood Avenue. The school was originally known as the Brick School House. At some point before 1900 it was named Lincoln School. The building was burned down in 1917, however, a new one was made in 1918 which students attended until that building was torn down in 2016 to be replaced with an apartment complex.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;The schools originally taught white students but opened a colored section in 1878. By the 1960s, the school primarily taught black students. The school was at the center of efforts to desegregate classrooms.</text>
