<text>
Marion “Boo” Leroy Frazier (1930–September 13, 2014) was a pioneering music executive, radio broadcaster, and tour manager whose behind-the-scenes influence helped shape the modern music industry. Born in Cheraw, South Carolina, Frazier grew up surrounded by music and family, including his cousin, jazz legend Dizzy Gillespie, who was thirteen years his senior and would remain a defining presence throughout his life.

Frazier attended the Winston-Salem/Forsyth County Schools and later Winston-Salem State University. In 1951, he enlisted in the United States Army and served a tour of duty during the Korean War. After his military service, he moved to New York City to study at the Cambridge School of Radio and Television Broadcasting, where he developed technical and communication skills that launched his professional career.

Returning to North Carolina, Frazier became one of the first Black radio announcers in Winston-Salem, working at WAIR. By 1958, he relocated to Corona, Queens, where he joined Gillespie on the road, traveling internationally as tour manager for the legendary trumpeter and his band. Their close personal bond—often described by family as brotherly—was forged early in life and sustained through decades of collaboration. Frazier accompanied Gillespie on tours that helped spread jazz to audiences across South America, the Middle East, Europe, and beyond, including a U.S. State Department–sponsored cultural tour in the mid-1950s.

Building on his radio and touring experience, Frazier transitioned into the record business, where he became widely respected for his promotional instincts, sales acumen, artist development work, and mentorship. Over the course of his career, he held influential roles with major labels including Chess, Perception, Mercury, Capitol, PolyGram, and A&M Records. Known for his generosity and practical wisdom, he trained and advised countless young professionals seeking to understand the business side of music.

In 1965, Frazier married Brenda Hemphill. The couple settled in Bergen County, New Jersey, living in Teaneck, Dumont, and later Englewood, where Frazier remained an active and well-known presence in the local community. In the 1970s, he and his family were among the early Black residents of Irene Court in Teaneck, reflecting broader changes in residential integration across the region.

Even as his health declined, Frazier continued to be honored for his cultural contributions. In 2012, the South Carolina Jazz Festival named him grand marshal of the Bebop Parade in his hometown of Cheraw, though illness prevented his attendance.

Marion “Boo” Frazier passed away at the age of 84 from congestive heart failure. He was survived by his wife of 49 years, Brenda; his children Cheryl, Brandon, and Tai; a daughter-in-law, Sandra; and his grandchildren, Tatum and Braydon. He was predeceased by two children, Takiya and Marion Jr., and by his brother Edward Frazier. He is also remembered by his sisters Willa F. Lash, Elaine F. Brown, Loretta (Major) Hairston, Tobbie Frazier, his sister-in-law Sylvia Douthit, many nieces and nephews, and close friends Irene Ware, Jesus Garber, and Al Jones.

A memorial service was held on September 20, 2014, at Boulevard Funeral Home and Cremation Service in New Milford, New Jersey.

"Narrative generated by chatgpt, 5.5 , Open AI, June 3, 2026.
Thaddeus J. Kropczynski was a respected musician, educator, and choral director whose career shaped music education in northern New Jersey for more than three decades. Trained as both an artist and teacher, he combined rigorous musical standards with a deep commitment to student performance and community engagement.

Kropczynski graduated from New York University in 1938 and later earned a master’s degree from the same institution in 1948. His early professional life was interrupted by World War II, during which he served in the United States Army. That experience broadened his perspective and discipline, qualities that later informed his work as a music educator and conductor.

After the war, Kropczynski became a central figure in secondary school music education. He served as music and art director at Bayonne High School for thirteen years before assuming the role of music director at Dwight Morrow High School, where he worked from 1946 to 1969. At Dwight Morrow, he led band, orchestral, and choral programs and was known for expanding opportunities for student performance. He directed large-scale ensembles, including girls’ and boys’ choruses, and helped bring student music to churches, hospitals, conventions, and broadcast media.

Beyond the classroom, Kropczynski played a significant role in regional youth and community music. He was the first director of the Englewood Cliffs Youth Orchestra and spent many years training and directing choruses associated with Englewood Hospital. His work reflected a belief that music education should extend beyond schools and into the broader civic and cultural life of the community.

Kropczynski was married to Marion Jefferies, and together they raised two daughters, Pamela Meyer and Kim McCarten. Remembered for his leadership, organizational skill, and dedication to young musicians, Thaddeus J. Kropczynski left a lasting imprint on music education and choral performance in Englewood and the surrounding region.
