<text>
Willie Mae Bowers Harris (1886–1986) was a longtime educator, community leader, and civic volunteer whose life spanned nearly a century of service. A resident of Englewood, New Jersey, Harris devoted much of her life to education, faith, and community work.

Before retiring after approximately sixty years in the classroom, Harris worked as a teacher in North Carolina and later in suburban New Jersey communities including Tenafly and South Orange. Her commitment to service extended beyond education. She played an active role in numerous community organizations in Englewood, contributing both leadership and volunteer work.

Harris helped found the Englewood chapter of the American Red Cross and later served on the board of the Bethany Presbyterian Church, where she was also an enthusiastic participant in its activities. She was a member of the church’s choir and served as superintendent of the Sunday school program. Her involvement in civic life also included leadership roles in the National Council of Negro Women, where she served as treasurer for the New Jersey section, and in the Salvation Army’s service unit.

In addition to her civic and religious commitments, Harris supported youth education in the community through her work with the Daily Vacation Bible School in Englewood. Her many contributions reflected a lifetime dedicated to public service, education, and community leadership.

Willie Mae Bowers Harris passed away in 1986 at the age of ninety-nine. She was remembered by family members and by the many community organizations she served throughout her life.
</text>
