Description
The following is a description of Charles H. Bullock written by his granddaughter Cheryl Ann.
"My grandfather Charles H. Bullock Jr. was born in 1903 in Charlottesville Virginia. He was the second to oldest of six children. His father Charles Sr. was Secretary of the Carlton Avenue YMCA in Brooklyn New York at the time of his birth and wife Lottie remained in Virginia raising their family. It wasn’t until about 1907 did the family move to Louisville Kentucky where Charles Sr. was called to serve as Secretary of the colored YMCA there. By 1916 the family had moved again to Montclair New Jersey, where Charles Sr. would be called to open a new modern building on Washington Street. Charles Jr. graduated from Montclair High School and would go on to attend and graduate from Hampton Institute. Seeking to secure his future, he interned for Mr. Holcombe and became a funeral director. After meeting and marrying Edna Everett of Hackensack he opened Bullock Funeral Home there as well as in Englewood New Jersey."
Bullock married Edna Everett in 1935. He married Eleanor M. Coleman in August 1956. He had two children, Charles III and Eleanor Leake.
