Today

The Gents

Today was an R&B music group. It was created in 1984 by friends Fred "Big Bub" Drakeford, Larry "Love" McCain, William McNeir, Ronald Scruggs, and Bernard Belle. It was originally called the Gents. The group met with music producer Teddy Riley and renamed themselves Today. McNeir, Scruggs, and Belle were no longer members of the group at that point. They signed up with Motown Records and released an album in 1988. The song “Him or Me” reached Number three on the R&B charts and “Girl I Got My Eyes on You" reached number one on the charts. Their second album was released in 1990 and three of their singles made it to the R&B Charts. The group broke up in 1991. They got back together in 2010 as a gospel group.
