Description
The Avons were an R&B group from Englewood, New Jersey. In 1954 brothers Bob, Bill, and Wendel Lea joined with friends Curtis Norris and Ervin Watson. They originally called themselves The Robins before renaming themselves The Avons. They worked with Bea Caslon of Hull Records and recorded "Love Will Never Die," "Baby," and "You're So Close to Me." During this time, Curtis Norris joined the army and was replaced by Franklin Cole. Cole also joined the army and was replaced by George Coleman. In 1962, Bill Lea joined the military as well and was replaced by Sunny Harley. "A Girl to Call My Own" was released in 1962 and the group broke up shortly afterwards.
