Description
Charles C. Parlin was a lawyer. He graduated from the University of Pennsylvania in 1919 and Harvard in 1922. He was a senior partner at Shearman and Sterling from 1953 to 1964. From 1966 to 1969 he was the chairman of Celanese Corp. In 1940 he represented the United States on a wartime mission for Franklin D. Roosevelt and was an ambassador to Libya in 1955 under Truman.
In Englewood, he was chairman of the Englewood Community Chest, the Urban League, and a member of the First United Methodist Church of Englewood. He defended Mary McCleod Bethune's right to speak at the Englewood Junior High School on Engle Street in 1952. He also served as a member of the Board of Trustees of Bethune-Cookman College. He married Kaye. He had three children, Camilla Smith, Charles C. Jr., and Blackwood B.
