David "Redhead" Guppy is an American hip-hop musician. he was born and raised in Englewood, he lived on West Palisade Avenue. He was a member of the hip-hop and new jack swing group "Redhead Kingpin and the F.B.I." The group was in existence from 1988 to 1993. His debut album, A Shade of Red was released in 1989 and was produced by Guppy and Teddy Riley’s brother Markell. The song “Do the Right Thing,” from the album reached No.13 on the UK Singles Chart and the song “Pump it Hottie,” No.2 on the US Hot Rap Singles Chart. Guppy’s second album, The Album with No Name, was released in 1991 and partly recorded at Hillside Studio in Englewood, owned by Tony Bennett’s son Dae. Guppy formed a new group named Private Investigators in 1993 and released one album. Guppy’s mother, Kate Guppy, was an Englewood police officer and the first African American woman to become a police sergeant and lieutenant.
