Description
Silbermann, Kurt was a spiritual leader, musician, and educator. He trained in Germany before the school he was attending was closed on Kristallnacht or "The Night of Broken Glass." He fled with his parents to New York in 1939. He graduated from the Hebrew Union School of Sacred Music, the first Cantorial School in the United States. He served as Cantor at the Congregation Tifereth Israel in Pennsylvania before moving to the Temple Emaun-El in Englewood. He served as president of the Cantors Assembly from 1977 to 1979. He married Inge May. He had a daughter, Judy Freilich.
