Description
Rock N' Gee is a hip-hop and rap music group. It was founded by friends Reggie "Rock" Passley Jr. and John "Uncle Boogie" Grant in the late 1980s. They grew up in Englewood and attended Dwight Morrow High School. Eventually, Shawn Cheatham who grew up in Teaneck joined the group.
The group’s first album was the never-released, Born to Talk, recorded with Dae Bennett at Hillside Studios. Rock N' Gee were eventually signed to Polygram and released their first 12” single, “Swing Beat,” and “Dual Tones,” on the b-side. In 1989, the group released a music video for “Swing Beat” that was played on MTV and Video Music Box. The song broke the Top 100 and the group toured with popular rap acts at the time like 3rd Base, Special Ed, Biz Markie, and KRS-One.
