Description
Gloria Gaynor (born September 7, 1943, in Newark, New Jersey) is an American singer best known as one of the defining voices of the disco era. She rose to international fame in 1978 with the anthem “I Will Survive,” a song that became a global hit, a symbol of resilience and empowerment, and earned her the first-ever Grammy Award for Best Disco Recording in 1980. Gaynor began her career in the 1960s, performing with jazz and soul groups before finding mainstream success in disco. Beyond her signature hit, she recorded several charting songs and albums during the late 1970s and early 1980s. In later years, she reinvented herself as a gospel artist, winning a Grammy Award in 2019 for Testimony. Her influence spans decades, and “I Will Survive” remains one of the most enduring and culturally significant songs in popular music history. Gaynor lives in Englewood Cliffs, NJ and regularly performs at the Bergen PAC in Englewood NJ.
