Title
Englewood establishes the Colored School on May 18, 1878
Description
In May 1878 Englewood segregated its school system by creating the Colored School for the city's 65 African American school age children, about 8% of the overall student population. The school board rented the home of W.O. Terry for the Colored School. The school lasted until 1884. After pressure from black parents in Englewood, the board agreed to merge the Colored School with The Brick School on Englewood Ave, which later became Lincoln School.
