Zuber, Paul
Description
Paul B. Zuber (1926–1987) was a civil rights lawyer and leading figure in legal battles to desegregate public school systems in New York and New Jersey. Best known for his role in the landmark Gerrymandering Eddy case, Zuber successfully challenged racially segregated school districts in New Rochelle, Englewood, and other municipalities, arguing that segregation in the North was deliberate and systemic rather than accidental. A Harvard Law School graduate and former director of the Center for Urban Environmental Studies at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, Zuber dedicated his career to dismantling educational barriers and exposing discriminatory practices in housing and school zoning. His work helped reshape school integration policy and affirmed that segregation outside the South was no less real or harmful. Zuber played a key and sometimes controversial role in the Englewood Movement.
