Englewood native Harry Gordon was a professional boxer active in the early 20th century, a period often considered part of boxing’s “golden age.” Known for his toughness and durability in the ring, Gordon competed during an era when fighters frequently faced demanding schedules and formidable opponents. While he did not achieve the lasting fame of some world champions, he was respected as a skilled and determined competitor who embodied the grit and resilience of working-class boxing culture of his time. Gordon helped popularized boxing in Englewood and became the trainer of champion boxer Henry Armstrong.
