Sarah Lois Vaughan was a singer and musician. She began her career in the 1940s touring with Earl Hines. She began a solo career in 1945. She eventually joined the Columbia record label. She joined the Mercury record label from 1954 to 1959. After that, she joined the Roulette record label from 1959-1969. During that time she moved to Englewood. From 1970 to 1982 she worked for Mainstream. She continued making music until she died in 1990. Over her career, she won two Grammys and was nominated for nine. She married George Treadwell from 1946 to 1958, Clyde Atkins from 1958 to 1961, and Waymon Reed from 1978 to 1981. She had one daughter whom she adopted, Deborah.
