Description
John Jay Phelps was a businessman and founder of the Delaware, Lackawanna and Western Railroad. He married Rachel Badgeley Phinney on July 4, 1835. He had three children, Ellen Ada Phelps Dodge, William Walter Phelps, and Francis Alexander Phelps. He was the father of Englewood/Teaneck resident William Walter Phelps.
